NORHOMES stands for Naval Officers Retirement Homes, a project initiated in early 2011. The project is a first of its kind, a community based self-help concept where the Veteran Naval Officers have come together to create a Retirement home for themselves, a place where they can live together in comfort, care and mutual support.
Registered as the Naval Officers Retirement Homes Owners Association (Reg. No: ER 430/11). The membership is only for the veteran and serving Naval, Army and Air Force officers and their spouse/widows and the number restricted to the number of dwelling units.
The NORHOMES is situated at Thottuva near Kodanad in125 cents of land close to the Periyar river bank and the Art of Living Ashram and Village. The building complex (Ground +4 floors) is composite multi-storied building specially designed and constructed to meet the specific needs of senior citizens and to be ecofriendly. There are 55 studio type dwelling units. Each unit is identical, covering 526-sqft area having a drawing room and a bedroom with attached toilet, balcony and a pantry. All other facilities/amenities required for a comfortable living are provided commonly. The entire project was funded by the members in installment as the work progressed and the cost equally shared by the 55 members. NORHOMES was inaugurated on 21 February 2015 by the Flag Officer Commanding- in- Chief, Southern Naval Command, V Adm S P S Cheema.
Being a community based project, all members of NORHOMES have to be from the defence service officers background (Retired/Serving/Spouse). Presently the dwelling units are owned by 50 Naval Officers/spouse, 03 Army and 02 Air Force.
Guest room facilities may be availed by the members for their guests. Similarly non member Defence Officers, families/relatives may also avail short stay facilities at NORHOMES as visitors. Long stay by Defence officers and spouse could also be arranged. All the above are subject to availability and approval. Contact Manager/Secretary.
